Oil & Gas

Outer Continental Shelf Testimony April 14, 2009

Senator Lesil McGuire, Alaska State Legislature

The ability to develop Alaska’s offshore resources is imperative to our energy future.

If you took a vote on proceeding with leasing, the majority vote would be yes.

Our heavy dependence on foreign oil is a liability to both our national security and our economic well-being.

While economic challenges continue to grow, the flow of oil continues to diminish through the trans-Alaska Pipeline System, or TAPS.

Someday, alternative energy development and conservation efforts will help us reduce those numbers. But right now the solution is responsible development of our own domestic oil and gas resources.
